As part of the investment, Wood Anchor will receive $25,000 to reclaim wood waste destined for landfills to make flooring and build furniture.
"Taking wood destined for the landfill and turning it into
beautiful flooring and furniture is an innovative way to
recycle," said Manitoba Conservation Minister Dave Chomiak.
"These creative local initiatives encourage waste reduction
and help our environment, and I'm pleased we're able to
support their efforts."
Other funding recipients include:
-Compost Council of Canada - receiving $25,000 to develop best management practices and train compost facility operators
-Conseil de Développement Économique des Municipalités Bilingues du Manitoba - receiving $25,000 to establish compost collection sites and provide an organic waste collection service for farming communities in southeastern Manitoba
-Fisher River First Nation - receiving $20,000 to develop a recycling pilot program
-Town of Snow Lake - receiving $10,000 to purchase recycling trailers
-Rural Municipality of South Norfolk - receiving $9,000 to
construct a recycling depot.
Established in 2000, the WRAPP Fund supports improved waste
reduction and pollution prevention practices in Manitoba.
Priority areas include organic waste management and composting,
construction and demolition waste management, pollution prevention,
and waste management system development and planning.
To date, the WRAPP Fund has provided more than $4.75 million in
grants to 282 projects.
