Manitoba investeert in afvalreductie

The Manitoba government, through its Waste Reduction and Pollution Prevention (WRAPP) Fund, is giving more than $150,000 to 13 organizations to reduce waste and pollution in the province.

As part of the investment, Wood Anchor will receive $25,000 to reclaim wood waste destined for landfills to make flooring and build furniture.

"Taking wood destined for the landfill and turning it into beautiful flooring and furniture is an innovative way to recycle," said Manitoba Conservation Minister Dave Chomiak. "These creative local initiatives encourage waste reduction and help our environment, and I'm pleased we're able to support their efforts."

Other funding recipients include:

-Compost Council of Canada - receiving $25,000 to develop best management practices and train compost facility operators

-Conseil de Développement Économique des Municipalités Bilingues du Manitoba - receiving $25,000 to establish compost collection sites and provide an organic waste collection service for farming communities in southeastern Manitoba

-Fisher River First Nation - receiving $20,000 to develop a recycling pilot program

-Town of Snow Lake - receiving $10,000 to purchase recycling trailers

-Rural Municipality of South Norfolk - receiving $9,000 to construct a recycling depot.

Established in 2000, the WRAPP Fund supports improved waste reduction and pollution prevention practices in Manitoba.

Priority areas include organic waste management and composting, construction and demolition waste management, pollution prevention, and waste management system development and planning.

To date, the WRAPP Fund has provided more than $4.75 million in grants to 282 projects.
